Following the huge success of Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) App – Union ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has come up with new instructions to all banks. As per the instructions, all banks must enable Internet Banking by March 31.
Meanwhile, it also wants all bank accounts to be mandatorily linked to the users’ Aadhaar card number. As a result, this will ease the process of digital transactions.
Hailing about Net Banking, a Senior government official said,
As of date, nearly 35 per cent of the bank accounts does not have the net-banking facility, which is one of the most basic facets of online payments.
In an internal meeting organised on Tuesday, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad said,
This measure will further enable the rapidly-evolving digital payments setup in the country and will help add to a new set of consumers to the world of online transactions.
Additionally, it also plans to issue RuPay Cards to the maximum population via a mass circulation drive.

The ministry is calling a meeting with all banks post the Holi festival to streamline any issues with online payments and make sure that the 31st March deadline is also met.
